A positive self image has an important effect in how we perceive ourselves. Researches have showed that a lack of confidence and self-esteem can emotionally and psychologically affect people's lives. Media plays a crucial role in how "beauty" is defined, moreover it has a deep unrealistic impact on self image.

When the narrative of our culture tells a young girl who she "needs to be" rather than celebrating who she is, her future is detrimentally affected.

Research has found that a few percentage of women (4%)  and girls (11%) around the world believe they are "beautiful", and "72% of girls feel tremendous pressure to be beautiful" (Dove Research: The Real Truth About Beauty: Revisited)

75% of girls with low self-esteem reported engaging in negative activities like cutting, bullying, smoking, drinking, or disordered eating. This compares to 25% of girls with high self-esteem. Makeup and hair are naturally a part of most young women's daily routines (to say the least). The conversation that we have with ourselves during this process is important and has lasting effects on how we view ourselves in relation to the world.

In our Freedom and Fashion Beauty Mentorship Program, we ensure that the youth we serve know they are beautiful, powerful beings created to create beauty in the world.

We infuse important conversations on self value, inner beauty, and the power of self expression with practical lessons  of the beauty industry. These lessons give our students the opportunity to learn important skills to get jobs and internships in the beauty industry.

At the end of the program we provide our students with "on-set experience" by hosting our Freedom and Fashion Pro Studio Day. We partner with professional photographers and a high-end studio to give our students hands-on industry experience as makeup and hair artists. Each student  leaves with professional photos to jumpstart their portfolio!
